Las Estrellas Dual Language school exists to provide high-quality, anti-racist, culturally responsive education for every student.
 
Las Estrellas Dual Language School, in the heart of the Minneapolis Arts District, welcomes students from throughout the city. Las Estrellas Dual Language School believes in uplifting, validating, and affirming the identities, culture, and experiences of students in a bilingual instructional setting. Our program aims to foster and cultivate bilingualism and biliteracy in a diverse school community. We are committed to amplifying our students' voices and cultural backgrounds.
 
Our 80-20 program starts with a strong foundation in Spanish for the early ages and progressively incorporates more English instruction until students reach a 50-50 bilingual learning environment by 5th grade. 
 
 

Spanish Dual Language Program Entrance Criteria: Breakdown by Home Language and Grade Level

Students Entering Grades...

Home Language Spanish Students

Home Language other than Spanish Students (Home language of English, Somali, Hmong,  etc.)

Do we need to contact the school for an entrance assessment? 

PK, Kinder, 1st grade (up until quarter 2 of grade 1)

No previous English exposure required

No previous Spanish exposure required 

No - no entrance assessment required

After quarter 2 of grade 1 and grades 2-5

Spanish oral proficiency required.

Previous Spanish literacy and language development learning through participation in a Dual Language, Bilingual or Immersion school setting required.

*After the required entrance assessment is given, schools will let families know if students can participate in the program. Families may be referred to student placement for a school that is a better fit for their students if they do not meet the criteria.
